The depths of this area, particularly rich in biodiversity, are home to about 872 species of reef fish ranging from small pygmy seahorses to giant manta rays and 507 species of coral. Some of the neighboring islands represent the most important nesting places for giant green turtles in Indonesia. The diving possibilities range from Wall Dive, to wrecks to beach diving. One of the most characteristic forms of life are the large barrel sponges, which often house small fish or various crustaceans inside them. In some areas there are large numbers of large pennatulae, crowded with crustaceans. There are also many anemones, all populated by more or less transparent clown fish, crabs and shrimps. One of the attractions of the area is the Jellyfish Lake which is located on nearby Kakaban Island, a salt water lake similar to that of Palau in Micronesia where there are 4 different species of non-stinging jellyfish.

Arrival in Singapore in the morning and continuation with Singapore airlines scheduled flight to Balikpapan, one of the main centers of the province of East Kalimantan. I fondali dell’area, particolarmente ricchi di biodiversità, ospitano circa 872 specie di pesci barriera che vanno dai piccoli cavallucci marini pigmei alle mante giganti e 507 specie di coralli. Alcune delle isole limitrofe rappresentano i più importati luoghi di nidificazione delle tartarughe verdi giganti in Indonesia. Le possibilità di immersione vanno dalle Wall Dive, ai relitti alle immersioni dalla spiaggia. Una delle forme di vita più caratteristiche sono le grandi spugne a botte, che spesso ospitano al loro interno pesciolini o crostacei vari. In alcune aree sono presenti in quantità delle grosse pennatule, affollatissime di crostacei. Molti anche gli anemoni, tutti popolati da pesci pagliaccio, granchi e gamberetti più o meno trasparenti. Una delle attrazioni dell’area è il Lago delle Meduse che si trova nella vicina Kakaban Island, un lago di acqua salata simile a quello di Palau in Micronesia dove si trovano 4 differenti specie di meduse non urticanti.
