A diving trip to the Azores also comprehends the Faial island, also called “The Blue Island” for the quantity of hydrangeas that make it so colorful. It is part of the central group of the archipelago. Colonized in 1432, it became a very important commercial port due to its strategic position. Its volcanic origin makes it interesting from a naturalistic point of view, and today is also famous for the presence of whales and dolphins . But the blue shark remains the main reason for a diving trip to Faial . Another characteristic is its depths , which offer many underwater experiences , also thanks to the good visibility that can reach up to 30 meters . The dives are offered from June to mid-October , a PADI Open water certification or similar is required.
The proposal includes two hotel solutions in the city of Horte to satisfy all your needs. The destination is also suitable for excursions and walks , for example the one that leads to the volcanic crater of Caldeira , but it is also suitable to discover beaches, like Praia do Almoxarife or Playa Norte . Finally in Porto Pim it is possible to visit the station of the Whales , where once the catches of this huge cetacean were processed. A trip to Faial is a mix of possibilities for sea lovers , not only for diving , but also for sightings and the many underwater sports that can be practiced on the island.
